Farm Life: Color, Ducklings

P1040653Farms are places where seasons and cycles dominate life.  We raise animals and vegetables for food, protection, and companionship.  When populations grow too large, it’s time for some to go to “freezer camp”.  Recently, we decided that having seven drakes was too many in the duck pecking-order.  A neighbor helped us butcher five of them.  That day, two of the hens hatched 21 ducklings.  Three days later, another hen hatched 10 more.  We are loosing this population count for the moment.

About hermitsdoor

Up here in the mountains, we have a saying, "You can't get there from here", which really means "We wouldn't go the trouble to do that". Another concept is that "If you don't know, we ain't telling." For the rest, you'll have to read between the lines.

That’s a lot of ducklings! I’ll bet you get quiet a gretting in the mornings when you go out to the pen.
