Planning a Safari: Food

Meals are events we look forward to when traveling.  We avoid franchise restaurants, seeking out places where the patrons look local… except for us.  We want to experience the flavors of that region.  While we enjoy a wealth of restaurants from many regions here in the USA, the food is different when in the actual place.  Sometimes it is the quality and freshness of the ingredients.  Sometimes it is the spice varieties.  Something about eavesdropping on conversations in language we do not understand.

A year or so ago, we found this South African spice mix at Trader Joe’s.  We picked it up for grilling and have been stocking it on our shelves ever since.  It has a real peppery-smoking aroma and flavor.  We add it to beef, goat, chicken, and fish.  On our last trip to Trader Joe’s we found this Everyday Seasoning.  It included ginger and coriander.  Linda looked carefully at the labels and declared, “It’s made in South Africa!”.  Well, we are on our way to some good tasting food.  We shall be reporting as we go.

So, join us on our safari.  Trek out the Trader Joes.  Pick up some South Africa spices and grill away!  Next stop, Johannesburg.

About hermitsdoor

Up here in the mountains, we have a saying, "You can't get there from here", which really means "We wouldn't go the trouble to do that". Another concept is that "If you don't know, we ain't telling." For the rest, you'll have to read between the lines.
